Vaults

We’re transitioning from vaults to the new transfer protection settings, which offer enhanced security without restricting access to assets. Here’s what you need to know.

Key points

  • New vaults can’t be created and funds can’t be added to an existing vault.

  • Existing vault balances will be moved to your primary balance, making it easier to view, trade, and manage your portfolio.

    • Balances of $10,000 or more, or balances between $1,000 and $10,000 that make up more than half of a customer’s portfolio, will automatically carry over existing vault settings to transfer protection settings. Customers can opt out by removing funds from the vault before the deadline.

    • All other customers will need to set up transfer protection after their vault balance has been moved.

    • Transfer protection settings can be changed at any time (subject to existing settings).

  • We’ll send a series of in-app and email notifications to affected customers with details and key dates relevant to their account.

Transfer protection at a glance

  • Outbound transactions can require a time delay, multiple approvers, or both, with optional amount thresholds.

  • Settings apply to the entire account balance and can be managed via mobile or web.

  • Assets remain available for sending, trading, staking, and other Coinbase features.

See Transfer protection and Set up and manage Transfer protection for more details.

Withdraw funds from a vault

To initiate a withdrawal from your vault to your balance:

  • Go to My Assets.

  • Select the asset that's stored in a vault.

  • Under the asset graph, select the Balance tab.

  • Select See balance summary.

  • Select Vault to view your vault.

  • Enter the amount you’d like to withdraw (you can select Withdraw all to transfer all your funds).

  • Follow the prompts to complete your withdrawal.

For a standard vault, once you enter the withdrawal details, confirmation emails will be sent to your primary and secondary email accounts. Once the details are approved there, the 48-hour waiting period will begin.

Note: Currently, it's only possible to create one withdrawal request at a time. You must wait for an existing withdrawal to complete, or cancel it, before making another.

Cancel a vault withdrawal

To cancel your vault withdrawal to your balance:

  • Go to My Assets.

  • Select the asset that has a pending withdrawal.

  • Under the asset graph, select the Balance tab.

  • Select See balance summary.

  • Select Vault to view your vault.

  • Select the pending withdrawal transaction, then View Details.

  • Select Cancel withdrawal.

Your cancellation will be immediate.
