Payment methods for UK customers

This guide covers available payment methods in the UK, as well as updating and verifying payment methods for UK customers.

Manage your payment methods

You can easily manage the payment methods linked to your account for buying, selling or cashing out.

Important

  • Name matching: For security, the name on your bank account or card must be an exact match to the name on your verified Coinbase account.

  • Updating payment method details: You can’t edit the details of an existing payment method. To update the details, first remove the method, then add it again with the updated information.

  • UK bank account - To make deposits in GBP, provide Coinbase with all requested information.

  • Credit/debit card - All credit/debit card payment methods must be 3D Secure enabled.

  • Apple Pay/Google Pay - If you have a supported Visa or Mastercard added to your Apple Pay or Google Pay on your device, these will automatically be available as payment methods on Coinbase.

  • PayPal - In the UK, PayPal is available for buying crypto and cashing out funds to your PayPal wallet. You can’t use PayPal to deposit cash to your Coinbase account.

    • For more information and troubleshooting, see our PayPal FAQ.

  • SEPA transactions - Transfers made through the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) are denominated in euros and have no fees. If you make a deposit in any other currency, it'll be declined and automatically returned within 10 business days.

  • Cash balance - You can deposit local currency from a participating bank into your cash balance and use it for instant crypto purchases and sales. SWIFT transfers are not available.

UK bank providers

Whilst many UK banks generally facilitate transactions to and from Coinbase, it's important to note that individual bank policies regarding cryptocurrency transfers can vary and are subject to change.

Important

  • Available methods to fund an account or withdraw funds from a crypto exchange vary by bank and exchange.

  • Bank policies are dynamic. Check with your bank for their most current policies and limitations for crypto transactions.
