There’s a new experience in the Base app: Base mode. The article below references the legacy Base app (formerly Coinbase Wallet). Visit our Base app help page for support with the new experience.
The purpose of this document is to help MetaMask users switch to the Base app.
Note: we do not support private key import into mobile devices.
Switch using a browser extension
Open your MetaMask extension and click on your wallet name.
Open the menu by selecting the three dots next to your wallet balance.
Select Account details.
Select Show private key.
Enter your wallet password.
Follow the prompt to reveal your private key.
Copy your private key.
Remember to store your private key safely and never share it with others. Anyone with this private key can control your account and access your funds.
Open the Base extension and select I already have a wallet.
Select Enter recovery phrase of private key banner.
Enter your private key.
Enter a secure password that you'll remember to secure your Base wallet.
Switch using a mobile app
Open your MetaMask mobile app and select the Settings icon.
Select Security & Privacy.
Select Reveal secret recovery phrase.
Enter your wallet password.
Follow the prompt to reveal your recovery phrase.
Copy your recovery phrase.
Remember to store your private key safely and never share it with others.
Open the Coinbase Wallet app and select I already have a wallet.
The Coinbase Wallet mobile app is available in the App Store for iPhone or in the Google Play Store for Android.
Select Enter recovery phrase button.
Paste your recovery phrase into the box.
