The Base app is an all-in-one app that allows you to create, earn, trade, discover mini apps, and chat with friends all in one place.
Base is built on the Farcaster, Zora, and XMTP protocols and does not require a Coinbase account, though you may need one for certain features.
Create a Base account
Download and open the Base app.
Select Create new wallet or I already have a wallet.
Claim your Basename (your unique identifier).
If you have Farcaster installed, you have the option to connect your Farcaster identity instead.
Enter a display name. This is how you will appear to others in the app. You can change it at any time.
Upload or take a profile photo and enter your profile information and a theme color.
Select at least three topics to help tailor your experience.
Switch between Legacy and Base mode
Base mode is the new Base app experience powered by smart contract code that enables advanced features, including sponsored network fees and batched transactions.
If you already have a wallet on the Base legacy app (formerly Coinbase Wallet), you can return to the Legacy experience by switching off Base mode.
Your existing wallet and its assets are still accessible, but are not visible in Base mode until you upgrade your wallet. Assets unsupported on Base will still be available by switching back to the Legacy experience.
To switch between Legacy and Base mode:
Select your profile photo to open the sidebar menu.
Toggle the Base mode switcher - on for Base mode and off for Legacy mode.
