Reset my password

We take precautions to safeguard against unauthorized requests for password resets, which in some cases may include prohibiting crypto sends for up to 48 hours after a password has been reset.

To minimize the potential for restrictions, reset your password from a device and location (IP address) you’ve previously used to access Coinbase.

To change your password if you’re already signed in to your Coinbase account:

  1. From the profile icon, select Settings, then Security.

  2. From the Password section, select Change password.

  3. Enter your existing password and the new password, which will generate a 2-step verification code.

  4. Enter the verification code and select Confirm.

To reset your password:

  1. Visit the Coinbase Password Reset page or select Forgot password? from the login screen.

  2. Enter your email address and select Reset password.

  3. Check your inbox (and spam folder if necessary) for a password reset email from us.

  4. Select the link in the email and follow the prompts to create a new password.

To reset your password if you no longer have access to your email address but have access to your registered phone number:

  1. Visit the Coinbase Password Reset page or select Forgot password? from the login screen.

  2. Select Reset using SMS.

  3. Select Send Code. The password reset link will be delivered to your registered phone number via text message.

  4. Select the link in the text message and follow the prompts to create a new password.

If you need to reset your password and have lost access to both your account email address and registered phone number, please contact Coinbase Support.

Password-reset delays

Under certain circumstances, Coinbase will only process password reset requests from devices that have been previously authorized to access your account. In the interest of keeping your account secure, Coinbase may, in certain cases, delay the processing of password reset requests for 24 hours if the request originates from a new device. This can only be bypassed by resetting your password from a previously verified device.
