Deposit USD on Coinbase Exchange

All clients residing in a country Coinbase services can fund their Coinbase accounts with USD using Fedwires or International Wires (SWIFT). 

Standard US bank transfers (ACH) are only available to US-based clients.   

Note: Coinbase currently does not support credit or debit cards, Paypal, or Omnibus Wires as payment methods for Exchange accounts.  

Fedwire

Depositing via Fedwire

To verify your bank account, we recommend you make an initial deposit of at least $50 to your Exchange USD wallet. Once the funds reach your account, your bank account will automatically be verified. 

To initiate a deposit via Fedwire:

1. Ensure you are signed out of all other Coinbase accounts

2. On Coinbase Exchange, select Portfolio

3. On the right-hand side, select Deposit > USD > Wire Transfer

4. Follow the instructions shown

Note: It is important to include the Reference Code to ensure the funds are routed directly to your Exchange account. Additionally, the name on your bank account must match the name on your Coinbase account. 

Please note that there are no deposit maximums, and your funds will typically appear in your account up to 1 business day after you’ve sent them.

There is a $10 deposit fee for Fedwire. 

Withdrawing via Fedwire

Before you can initiate a withdrawal, you will first need to complete a successful deposit to your Exchange account. The instructions to do so are above. Please note that you will not need to enter any bank credentials on Coinbase to complete verification. 

To withdraw via Fedwire: 

1. Select Portfolio in the top right corner

2. On the right-hand side, select Withdraw > USD > Wire Transfer

3. Select the receiving bank account under To

4. Enter the amount you’d like to withdraw

5. Confirm the amount and select Withdraw USD

There is a $25 withdrawal fee for Fedwire.

International Wires 

This is only available to Non-US / Non-EU Clients who need to fund their Coinbase account with USD from their non-US SWIFT enabled bank. This is activated upon request after we’ve confirmed we have a valid W8 form.

We strongly advise that you make an initial verification deposit for the small amount of $50 to your Exchange USD wallet, and then a small withdrawal to ensure the transactions are working properly.

Depositing via SWIFT

Once we receive your first SWIFT USD deposit, we will automatically create the payment method—you will not need to enter any bank account information on the platform.

To deposit using SWIFT:

1. Sign in to Coinbase Exchange

2. Select Deposit > USD > International Wire Transfer

3. Follow the instructions shown to initiate a deposit 

Note: The Reference Code must match exactly in order to correctly credit your account.

There is a $25 Deposit fee for SWIFT.

Withdrawing via SWIFT

Before you can make a SWIFT USD withdrawal, you will need to complete a successful deposit to your Exchange account. 

To withdraw using SWIFT:

1. Sign in to Coinbase Exchange

2. Select Withdraw > USD > International Wire Transfer

3. Select SWIFT Bank Account as the payment method from the dropdown

4. Enter your desired amount

5. Select Withdraw USD, then confirm the transaction with your 2-step verification method

There is a $25 withdrawal fee for SWIFT.

Bank Transfers (ACH)

*ACH is only available to US based clients. 

Verifying a US bank account

  1. Open the trading view

  2. On the left-hand column under Wallet Balance, select Deposit

  3. In the Currency Type field, select USD

  4. Select the Bank Account tab > From > Add Account

  5. You will be redirected to Coinbase.com to complete the bank account verification process

Depositing from a US Bank Account

  1. Open the trading view

  2. On the left-hand column under Wallet Balance, select Deposit

  3. In the Currency Type field, select USD

  4. Select the Bank Account tab

  5. From the drop-down menu, select the verified bank account you’d like to deposit from

  6. Enter the USD amount, and then select Deposit USD to confirm 

There is no fee for depositing via ACH.

Withdrawing to a US Bank Account

  1. Open the trading view

  2. On the left-hand column under Wallet Balance, select Withdraw

  3. In the Currency Type field, select USD

  4. Select the ACH Bank Transfer tab

  5. From the drop-down menu, select the verified bank account you’d like to withdraw to

  6. Enter the USD amount (Select MAX to withdraw all your USD)

  7. Select Withdraw USD to confirm your withdrawal

The ACH bank transfer system typically takes 3-5 business days to complete—which may be as many as 7-10 calendar days depending on weekends and holidays.

There is no fee for withdrawing via ACH.

Deposit & Withdrawal Limits

Cryptocurrency deposits are unlimited, however fiat deposits are limited by payment method.

For example, fiat deposits via Fedwire are unlimited, but fiat deposits via ACH transfers are limited based on your weekly bank transfer limit. You can see your weekly bank transfer limit by going to your Limits page. 

Withdrawals of both cryptocurrency and fiat currency are limited. Coinbase Exchange account holders have a default withdrawal limit of $100,000 per day. This amount applies across all currencies.

To be considered for higher withdrawal limits, go to your Limits page within Coinbase Exchange and select Increase Limits.
