Troubleshoot payment method addition

For card verification, Coinbase sends two test charges between 1.01 and 1.99 in your local currency. If these test transactions are not visible, try again, or:

  • Review pending or processing charges on your card issuer's website.

  • After 24 hours, contact your card issuer to ask for the amounts of any pending Coinbase authorizations, or see if the charges have been blocked.

Note:

  • 1.00 charges are caused by the card processing network, and are not used for verification.

  • We will cancel the verification charges, and they will disappear after 10 business days.

If your card doesn't support 3D Secure, an error message will appear. This is determined by your card provider and not something Coinbase can bypass.

Add your bank account using instant verification through Plaid, or manually by completing the deposit verification process.

For deposit verification, when adding your bank account, close the Plaid window and follow these steps:

  1. Select Connect manually.

  2. Complete the provided steps to enter your payment details.

  3. Select Verify Your Bank.

    1. Test deposits are sent and will arrive in your bank account in 1-3 business days.

  4. Once the deposits arrive, navigate to Payments methods and select Verify.

  5. Enter the 'cent' portion of the deposit amounts.

  6. Your bank account will be verified when the correct amounts are entered.

If you do not see the deposits, try the following:

  • Check your upcoming or pending transactions in your online bank account.

  • Review your bank statement.

  • Contact with your bank to track down any hidden or omitted details on your statement.

  • Restart the verification process, this will void the first pair of deposits.

If you use an online bank, you will not be able to verify your account manually. In this case, try instant verification or link a different payment method.

A successful deposit will verify your bank account. For transfer details, complete the steps in the section Add and verify your payment method.

For PayPal support, refer to our PayPal FAQ article.

Apple Pay or Google Pay appear as a payment method when a Visa or Mastercard debit card is linked to your Wallet. If they don’t, ensure you're using a supported device or browser, and your settings are correct.
