Place a limit order

A limit order allows you to buy and sell cryptocurrency (crypto) at a specific price or better using your USD balance.

  • Limit order buy: Set a price below the market price that you’d like to buy your crypto at; once the asset hits the price you set, your buy will process.

  • Limit order sell:  Set a price above the market price that you’d like to sell any crypto at; once the asset hits the price you’ve set, your sell will process.

Coinbase charges a standard fee for limit orders which is determined by a combination of factors, such as the size of the order and market conditions, including volatility and liquidity. Your order may also fill for a better price than shown, in which case we would release any applicable fund differences to your account.

Before you place a limit order:

  • Make sure your Coinbase app is up to date

  • The minimum amount for any buy or sell is $5

  • Your limit order will remain open until it’s filled or canceled (good til canceled)

  • Your funds will be on hold until your order is filled

    • Cancel your order before it’s filled to return the funds to your balance

Your funds will be held in USDC and you will be automatically opted in to earn rewards on your USDC balance until the order is filled or canceled. When your desired price is reached, the hold will be used to fill your order. Coinbase may pause or cancel  your order if the price of USDC materially changes. You may opt out of rewards at any time.
