Upgrading your mobile device as a Web3 Signer

Ensure you retain access to your old device or recovery phrase when upgrading your iPhone, as your keys are stored on the current device to maintain wallet access.

Your Web3 keys are associated with the original device used to enroll as a Web3 Signer. When you enroll as a Web3 Signer, your cryptographic keys are generated and tied to that specific device.

Before switching or upgrading devices, ensure you have access to your recovery phrase or another device with a valid key. This is essential when enrolling your new device and provisioning your Web3 keys, as the Web3 keys are securely stored locally on the registered device.

IOS (Iphone) quick start setup will not automatically enable you to use the Prime approvals app on your new device. Please do not erase content from your old device unless you have a backup and/or access to additional phones/signers.

We've introduced a Device Upgrade flow that lets you upgrade your device without losing your Web3 Signer role. You can self-serve this process within the Prime UI by navigating to Settings > Web3 > Members.

To start the upgrade, click on the three dots next to your name and select "Upgrade Device". This process requires necessary permissions and consensus approval.

Finally, any Web3 signer, including yourself, can approve the upgrade following the same steps as adding a new signer

Complete the enrollment on your new device, and you're all set.

If your organization no longer has access to a device with a valid key shard, please initiate the recovery process using your recovery phrase to enroll a new device. Learn more.
