Secret recovery phrase
Coinbase Wallet generates a 12-word recovery phrase, also known as a seed phrase. Only you have access to it. If you lose your recovery phrase, you’ll lose access to your Coinbase Wallet and your funds will be at risk.
Never share your recovery phrase with anyone. Coinbase will never ask for or have access to your recovery phrase, so we can’t move funds on your behalf or help you access your assets.
Back up your wallet
We created an encrypted Google Drive and iCloud feature for backup of your recovery phrase. We recommend using this feature and securely storing your written recovery phrase.
Back up your recovery phrase in Coinbase Wallet:
Access the Coinbase Wallet mobile app.
From the Assets tab, tap Settings.
Select the wallet to back up.
Enter your passcode to unlock the wallet.
Select Allow to access backup.
Select Back up with iCloud/Google Drive or back up manually.
iCloud/Google Drive: Create a unique password to secure your backup. Only you can access it. Keep this password secure. If you lose your password, you won't be able to access your funds.
Manually: Write down or copy your recovery phrase. Never share it. Coinbase will never ask for it. Never paste it into any website. Store it securely and ensure the spelling and order are correct.
When you sign out of the Coinbase Wallet app, you are prompted to acknowledge that not backing up your recovery phrase may lead to permanent loss of access.
