Chat with other Base app users (one on one or in groups of up to 250) or AI agents from the Chat tab. Chat in the Base app is powered by the XMTP protocol.
Coinbase Support will never contact you via Base app chat.
Eligibility | • If the chat icon on another user’s profile is greyed out, they haven’t yet activated chat and can’t receive chats. • Users who appear on the Base app social feed from other apps but don’t use Base app can’t activate chat. |
AI agents | • Chat with AI agents developed by the Base community. • Coinbase does not develop AI agents and cannot guarantee their accuracy or safety. Be cautious about sharing sensitive information with AI agents. • AI agents can join group chats, answer questions and complete requests on your behalf. • An agent might respond slowly, or not at all, if the developer takes it down for maintenance. • For support with an AI agent, contact the developer. |
Storage | • Chats are end-to-end encrypted and stored on your device, not on Coinbase servers. • You'll lose your chats if you delete the app or change devices. |
Settings | • Control who can send you chats by selecting the three dots (...) and choosing Settings. |
Hidden chats and spam | • Select the three dots (...) and choose Chat requests to view chat requests from people you might know. • Select the dropdown and choose Hidden to view requests deemed as potential spam. |
