Add cash to your balance

You have access to both British pound (GBP) and Euro (EUR) balances in your Coinbase.com account. Your GBP balance can be funded using two different methods. Your EUR balance is funded using a bank account via Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) transfer.

Add cash with a UK bank account

Your GBP balance can be funded using Faster Payments Transfers or Easy Bank Transfers.

Before you move on:

  • Verify your UK ID and your mobile phone number in your Coinbase account.

  • Make sure that the name on your bank account matches the name on your Coinbase account.

  • Some UK banks are restricting deposits to cryptocurrency exchanges

  • Corporate or institutional bank accounts are not supported unless you have completed our institutional onboarding process.

Faster Payments Transfer (GBP)

When depositing funds via Faster Payments, Coinbase automatically confirms the name on your Coinbase account to your sending bank. You can only fund your account by linking bank accounts held solely in your name.

This mechanism does the following:

  • Enables your bank to match information against deposit details

  • Helps you confirm that you're sending money to your Coinbase account

  • Gives you the opportunity to confirm that you're sending funds

  • Reduces the risk of funds being misdirected

This security feature is designed to protect you by confirming that you're the payee. It only confirms or denies if the names match. It will not reveal your name unless they match.

Name match results

  • Match: The details you've entered match the bank account on file.

  • Partial Match: You've entered a name similar to an account verified with the bank.

    • Next step: Check your spelling and update the details.

  • No Match: You've entered details that don't match an account verified with the bank.

    • Next step: Check your spelling and update the details.
