Customers with a verified payment method can use it to buy crypto on Coinbase.
Buy crypto on your desktop browser:
Select Buy on the Coinbase homepage.
Enter an amount to buy.
Select Pay with and choose or confirm your payment method.
Select Buy and choose or confirm the asset you’re buying.
Select Review order to confirm your purchase details.
If the details are correct, select Buy now to complete your purchase.
Buy crypto on the Coinbase mobile app:
Access the Coinbase mobile app.
Select Buy & sell.
Choose Buy.
Select the asset you’d like to buy.
Enter the amount you'd like to buy.
Select Review order to review your purchase.
If all the details are correct, select Buy now to complete your purchase.
Note: Minimum purchase amounts vary by crypto or payment method. If your purchase is below the minimum required, you'll be notified.
You can purchase with a credit or debit card if your card supports 3D Secure (3DS). With 3DS, you won’t have to pre-fund your account. You can purchase instantly without waiting for a bank transfer. To see whether your card supports 3DS, contact your credit/debit card provider.
Some banks require additional authorisation on purchases using a 3DS card. This may include text messages, a bank-provided security card or security questions.
When making a purchase with your 3DS card:
After you select Buy now, choose Verify now on the confirmation window.
You'll be redirected to your card issuer's secure portal to authorise your purchase.
You'll be redirected back to the Coinbase app and your purchase will be complete.
Note: Coinbase no longer supports linking new credit cards and some card issuers are blocking digital currency purchases with existing credit cards. If you have a credit card linked already, your bank may charge additional fees for Coinbase credit card purchases. To avoid these fees, switch to a debit card or bank account.
We're also unable to support prepaid cards or other cards without an associated billing address.
All credit card and debit card payments are processed through Coinbase Payments for the UK and Coinbase Ireland for the rest of Europe.
UK customers can make a purchase with a bank account using Easy Bank Transfer.
To make an Easy Bank Transfer:
Go to the Buy/Sell page.
Enter the amount you want to buy.
Select your bank account from the drop-down menu.
To pay with a new bank account select Add a payment method, select the Easy Bank Transfer option and then choose your bank.
Confirm that the order is correct and select Place order.
You will be redirected to your banking app or website to authorise the payment in order to complete the purchase.
Apple Pay
Use an iOS device or Safari and sign in to your account.
When using Apple Pay, your cryptocurrency purchase limit is equal to the sum of your credit card transaction limit and your Coinbase limit.
Google Pay
Use an Android device or browser that supports Google Pay.
For Google Pay, review your Share settings so you’re sharing Google Pay with companies outside of Google settings.
