Your Global Derivatives portfolio is the balance used for perpetual & dated futures and options trading and you need accepted collateral in your portfolio to fulfill margin requirements. In order to fund your Global Derivatives portfolio, you need to transfer it from your primary portfolio first.

Buy margin (as accepted collateral)

To buy USDC:

  1. Sign in to your Coinbase.com account.

  2. Select Deposit from the navigation bar.

  3. Select Deposit USDC.

  4. Input the amount of USDC along with the Payment Method of your choice.

To buy BTC or ETH:

  1. Sign in to your Coinbase.com account.

  2. Open the market selector and select a BTC or ETH spot market.

  3. Enter the amount of BTC or ETH you want to buy.

Transfer margin (as accepted collateral)

To fund your Global Derivatives portfolio with margin:

  1. Sign in to your Coinbase.com account.

  2. Go to the Portfolio  page.

  3. Select Transfer funds from the navigation bar.

  4. Select the margin currency you want to transfer.

  5. Enter the amount to transfer from your Primary portfolio to your Global Derivatives portfolio. No fee is charged.

Transfers usually complete shortly after submission, but may take longer. Wait for confirmation that the transfer has completed before relying on the funds being available in the destination portfolio. You may be unable to transfer your entire balance because of funds being held. Funds can be held for many reasons including open orders, margin requirements, deposit holds, etc. Isolated margin positions only support USDC as collateral.

Deposit margin on chain (as accepted collateral)

  1. Sign in to your Coinbase account.

  2. Select Deposit from the navigation bar and select Receive crypto.

  3. Select USDC.

  4. Choose Perpetuals as the destination portfolio.

  5. Copy the deposit address and send the collateral directly to your perpetuals portfolio

Withdraw margin

You can transfer out only the amount available for withdrawal. This may be less than your total balance because of margin requirements, open orders, unsettled profit and loss, or other holds.

To withdraw all remaining funds, cancel open orders, close open positions, and wait for any required settlement and holds to clear. See Settlement for more details.

You can withdraw your margin by first transferring it back to your primary portfolio. From there, you can cash out or send the funds off-platform by selecting Withdraw on the Portfolio page.
