Create a Coinbase account on a web browser or the mobile app using the steps below.
Coinbase only sends confirmation emails from valid email addresses. Avoid replying to or clicking links in suspicious emails. If you suspect a fraudulent email, contact us.
Mobile app
Download and open the mobile app, then follow the steps below to sign up with an email address or your Apple or Google account.
Select Sign up or Get started.
Enter your email address and select Continue.
Enter the verification code Coinbase sends to your email address.
Create a password and select Continue.
Enter your first and last name as they appear on your government-issued ID, and select Continue.
If your legal name includes only one name and you don't have a last name, enter your legal name in the First Name field and a single dash (-) in the Last Name field.
Enter your phone number to receive an SMS verification code and select Continue.
Enter the verification code to proceed to the next step.
Apple or Google
Select the Apple or Google icon.
Follow the prompts to enter or confirm your Apple or Google account details, then select Continue.
Enter your phone number to receive an SMS verification code and select Continue.
Enter the verification code to proceed to the next step.
Browser
Visit the Coinbase sign-up page from a browser on your computer, then follow the steps below to sign up with an email address or your Apple or Google account.
Enter your email address and select Continue.
Enter the verification code Coinbase sends to your email address.
Create a password and select Continue.
Enter your first and last name as they appear on your government-issued ID and select Continue.

Enter your phone number to receive an SMS verification code and select Continue.
Enter the verification code to proceed to the next step.
Apple or Google
Select the option to sign up with either Apple or Google.
Follow the prompts to enter or confirm your Apple or Google account details, then select Continue.
Enter your phone number to receive an SMS verification code and select Continue.
Enter the verification code to proceed to the next step.
Add your personal information
Coinbase is required by financial regulations to collect your personal information to validate your identity and maintain a secure platform.
Certify you’re 18 years or older and select Continue. We validate age as part of our identity verification process.
Age requirements in Canadian provinces are either 18 or 19 years old.
Select your citizenship.
Validate the last four digits of your Social Security number.
Ensure your personal information matches the details on your government-issued photo ID and select Confirm.
Complete the remaining on-screen questions.

Validate tax residency and TIN
Starting January 1, 2026, this only applies to our non-US customers residing in:
Andorra, Brazil, EU/EEA, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
*Excludes residents of Australia, India, and APAC.
Enter the countries where you pay taxes and your Tax Identification Number (TIN) or regional equivalent (EU/EEA customers).
EU customers: If you don’t have a TIN or regional equivalent, you must obtain one from your government and provide it to Coinbase within 60 days of creating your account. Learn more.
Non-EU customers: For regions that issue a TIN or regional equivalent, you must obtain one from your government and provide it to Coinbase to start trading and transacting. Learn more.
Before submitting your information, review the accuracy of your TIN or regional equivalent.
Select an entry line item to edit or delete it.
Select Confirm to submit your information.
If your address, the country linked to your phone number, or your place of birth doesn’t match your tax residency, you must select an explanation.
If none of the options apply, enter a brief written explanation so we can validate your tax residency. We’ll review it and email you when it’s complete.
