Create a Coinbase account through browser or mobile app using the specified steps.

Coinbase sends confirmation emails from valid email addresses. When applying, avoid replying to or clicking links in suspicious emails. If you suspect a fraudulent email, contact us.

Mobile app setup

  1. Download and open the Coinbase mobile app. Do not use a browser on your mobile device.

  2. Select Create free account.

  3. Enter your email address and select Continue.

  4. Enter the verification code Coinbase sends to your email address. 

  5. Create a password and select Continue.

  6. Enter your first and last name as they appear on your government-issued ID, and select Continue.

  7. Enter your phone number to receive an SMS verification code and select Continue.

  8. Enter the verification code to proceed to the next step.

Browser

  1. Visit Coinbase.com from a browser on your computer.

  2. Select Sign up on the Coinbase homepage.

  3. Select Individual or Business.

  4. Enter your email address and select Continue.

  5. Enter the verification code Coinbase sends to your email address.

  6. Create a password and select Continue.

  7. Enter your first and last name exactly as they appear on your government-issued ID and select Continue.

  8. Enter your phone number to receive an SMS verification code and select Continue.

  9. Enter the verification code to proceed to the next step.

Add your personal information

Coinbase is required by financial regulations to collect your personal information to validate your identity and maintain a secure platform.

  1. Certify you’re 18 years or older and select Continue. We validate age as part of our identity verification process.

    • Age requirements in Canadian provinces are either 18 or 19 years old.

  2. Select your citizenship.

  3. Validate the last four digits of your Social Security number. 

  4. Ensure your personal information matches the details on your government-issued photo ID and select Confirm.

  5. Complete the remaining on-screen questions.
