Technical support and impersonation scams

Technical support scammers set up fake customer support phone lines and impersonate companies - including Coinbase - regulatory bodies, government agencies, and even law enforcement. Scammers may pose as employees and try to pressure you into moving your funds. Remember, no one will ever ask for your password, 2FA codes, or for you to transfer assets to a specific or new address, account, vault, or wallet.

We will never call or text you to give you a new seed phrase or wallet address to move your funds to. If you receive this call, hang up the phone. Coinbase will never ask you to contact an unknown number to reach us.

Coinbase customer service agents will never:

  • Ask you to secure, move, or access your funds

  • Provide a wallet seed phrase or ask you for your seed phrase

  • Ask for your password or 2-step verification code

  • Ask you to install software on your device

  • Remotely access your device to take action on your account

If you’re asked for any of the above, disconnect the call and email security@coinbase.com immediately.

The Argentine Securities Commission (CNV) has become aware that third-party scammers are impersonating Coinbase to offer fake insurance products, similar to "Premium Insurance Policy" or "Cryptocurrency Insurance".

Coinbase DOES NOT offer insurance products. We will never call or SMS you to request account access. Any offer for "insurance" using our name is a scam.

Note: If you’re disconnected from a customer service call, the agent will call you back within five minutes at the same phone number. Before continuing the conversation, the agent will re-verify your identity with a security question.

Help protect yourself:

  • Do not share personal data, transfer funds, or download unknown apps. If you encounter this or have any questions, please visit our Help Center.

  • Never accept calls asking for your confidential personal information. Scammers can spoof legitimate phone numbers when conducting outbound calls.

  • Only contact Coinbase through the phone number or email listed on our Contact us page.

  • Never send cryptocurrency to external addresses on behalf of alleged support agents. Coinbase staff will never ask you to send cryptocurrency to external addresses.

  • Turn on withdrawal allow‑listing . Only allow on chain transfers to wallets that you know and trust

  • Enable strong 2-factor authentication. Hardware keys are best.

  • Lock first, ask later. If something feels off, lock your account in-app and email security@coinbase.com

You can check or report suspicious crypto addresses or domains on Chainabuse, a third-party, community-driven platform where people share scam reports. Because submissions are user-generated and may not always be verified, use it as a supplemental reference and to help raise awareness for others. Chainabuse is not affiliated with Coinbase.
