The performance feature is in beta and only available to customers in the US. It may not appear in your account.
Performance data helps customers track and understand their portfolio. Customers will see asset costs, portfolio value breakdown, and assumed returns.
To view portfolio performance details:
Sign in to your account.
From the Home tab, select your total balance.
View performance and balance details.
Select a date range to view details for different time frames.
To view the performance of specific assets:
Sign in to your account.
From the Home tab, select an asset type.
Choose a specific asset.
Under the Balance section, view performance and balance details.
Click into each data point for additional information.
Unrealized return | The gain or loss from assets customers still hold and haven't sold. This includes: • Changes in value for assets held (example: asset price changes) • Percent change is equivalent to the following formula: Unrealized % = Total Unrealized Gain / (Total Current Balance - Total Unrealized Gain) |
Realized return | The gain or loss resulting from assets sent, sold, or withdrawn. The calculation includes: • Sales gain or loss: The total value received at the time of an asset sale less the costs basis of that asset. • Asset yield: Earnings generated through activities such as staking, Coinbase Card rewards, dividends, or capital distributions. • External transfers: The market value of assets at the time of transfer outside of Coinbase less the assets’ cost basis, which is treated as the assumed gain or loss for performance tracking. |
Total return | The overall gain or loss of a customer's portfolio. It’s the sum of unrealized and realized returns. |
Average cost | The average price at which an asset is acquired, plus any transaction fees. The cost basis of crypto received is the market price at the time of transfer. The cost basis of stocks and funds received is provided by the delivering firm and may take a couple weeks to update.These values can be updated in the Tax Center. |
% of portfolio | The percentage that an asset constitutes of a customer's total Coinbase portfolio balance. |
How do fees affect my performance?
Fees are included in the Net Invested value, which reflects the total cash deposited into Coinbase. Returns will reflect any change above or below this value.
Troubleshooting tips
Why can’t I see my performance data?
This feature is undergoing testing and improvements. Portfolio performance data may be temporarily unavailable during Coinbase system upgrades. If this issue persists, contact the support team for assistance.
In addition to system upgrades, data availability depends on the following:
Initial crypto purchases or sales require up to 24 hours to appear within the account performance view.
Sales involving stocks or funds settle on a T+1 basis, or one business day after the trade date. Proceeds from sales will be available for withdrawal or reinvestment after settlement. Performance metrics will update once these transactions are fully settled and processed.
My performance data is different from what I expected
Performance data is based on transactions made on the Coinbase platform.
Here are a few important things to know:
The value presented will change over time based on the market price of the assets that have been bought, sold, or received.
This data represents all transactions made on the Coinbase mobile app and Coinbase.com. Transactions on other platforms, like Coinbase Wallet, are not included.
Coinbase makes assumptions for certain transactions, unless specific data is provided within the Tax Center.
For stocks and funds transferred into a Coinbase Capital Markets account from external brokerages, Coinbase Capital Markets uses the market value at the time of the transfer as the assumed value for performance tracking purposes.
For crypto received from outside of Coinbase, the market value at the time of receipt is used for the “Received” calculation under Net Invested.
For crypto sent outside of Coinbase, the market value at the time of the send is used for the “Sent” calculation under Net Invested.

Can I use this feature to help me with my taxes?
This feature is not intended for filing taxes. It lacks complete tax impact details, like the cost basis for assets received on Coinbase. Assumptions are provided for missing data.
