Overview
Escrow in Coinbase Token Manager is a secure smart contract that holds deposited tokens until vesting and unlock conditions are met. Keeping your escrow funded ensures stakeholders can seamlessly claim their vested tokens, while withdrawals let you move excess tokens back to your treasury when they are not needed for upcoming events.
This feature is available only for companies whose tokens are on Ethereum or other EVM‑compatible blockchains.
We generally recommend:
Funding escrow after you publish token grants on‑chain, so there are enough tokens to cover vest events for at least the next 30 days.
Withdrawing only tokens that are not required for near‑term vesting or planned payouts.
Before you withdraw
Before initiating a withdrawal from escrow:
Confirm that your upcoming vesting events and planned payouts will still be fully covered after the withdrawal.
Ensure that the wallet you use to confirm the transaction (for example, MetaMask or a multisig signer wallet) has the necessary permissions to perform escrow operations.
Withdrawing too much can result in insufficient funds in escrow, which may block stakeholder claims until you re‑fund.
Withdraw tokens from escrow
Follow these steps to withdraw tokens from your escrow contract back to your treasury wallet.
Open Coinbase Token Manager and go to your overview
Sign in to Coinbase Token Manager with an admin or owner account.
Navigate to your Overview or home dashboard.
Locate the escrow balance
On the right side of the home screen, find the Balance or Escrow section.
Confirm the current escrow balance for the token you plan to withdraw.
Start the withdrawal flow
In the Balance / Escrow section, click Withdraw.
In the withdrawal panel or modal, enter the amount of tokens you want to withdraw from escrow.
Confirm the transaction in your wallet
When prompted, review the transaction details in your connected wallet (for example, MetaMask or your multisig signer interface).
Confirm the transaction, following any multi‑signature requirements your organization has configured.
Verify completion
After the transaction is submitted, Coinbase Token Manager will show a confirmation message once the escrow withdrawal has been processed.
You can also verify the withdrawal from your Transactions or Activity page, where the escrow withdrawal will appear as an on‑chain transaction associated with your escrow contract.
If the transaction appears stuck or fails, check your wallet for gas or signer issues, and make sure there are sufficient tokens and permissions to complete the withdrawal.
Overview
Escrow in Coinbase Token Manager is a secure smart contract that holds deposited tokens until vesting and unlock conditions are met. Keeping your escrow funded ensures that stakeholders can seamlessly claim vested tokens when they become available.
This feature is only available to companies whose tokens are on Ethereum or other EVM‑compatible blockchains.
We recommend:
Depositing funds into escrow after you have published token grants on‑chain, so your escrow balance covers past‑due events and at least the next 30 days of upcoming vest events.
Before you deposit
Before depositing tokens into escrow, confirm:
Your treasury wallet (for example, account owner wallet or Safe signer wallet) holds enough tokens to cover the deposit amount.
You have sufficient gas in the treasury wallet to pay for the escrow deposit transaction.
You understand how much you want to deposit:
At minimum: amounts for any past‑due payouts
Ideally: past‑due payouts plus upcoming payout amounts for the next vesting period (for example, the next 30 days)
Coinbase Token Manager can pre‑calculate a recommended deposit amount based on your existing grants and upcoming events.
Deposit tokens into escrow from Coinbase Token Manager
Follow these steps to deposit tokens from your admin interface.
Log in as an admin
Sign in to Coinbase Token Manager with your account owner wallet or Safe signer wallet (depending on your configuration).
Open your overview and locate escrow balance
Go to your main Overview or home dashboard.
On the right side of the home screen, find the Balance or Escrow section that shows your current escrow balance.
Start the deposit flow
In the Balance / Escrow section, click Add funds (or the equivalent Deposit / Add button).
Review or adjust the deposit amount
A pop‑up will display a pre‑calculated amount based on:
Any past‑due payouts, and
Your next upcoming payout.
You can:
Accept this recommended amount, or
Enter a different amount if you want to fund a larger buffer or adjust for your own schedule.
Remember:
You must have at least this amount of tokens in your treasury wallet.
You must have enough gas in the same wallet to cover the on‑chain transaction.
Confirm the deposit
Click Deposit in Coinbase Token Manager.
Review and approve the transaction in your connected wallet (for example, MetaMask or a multisig signer wallet).
Sign and submit the transaction according to your wallet’s prompts.
Verify completion
After the transaction is confirmed on‑chain, you should see a pop‑up in Coinbase Token Manager confirming that your escrow balance has increased.
You can also verify the deposit by:
Checking the updated escrow balance on your Overview page, and
Reviewing the corresponding on‑chain transaction in your Transactions or Activity page.
Once the escrow is funded, stakeholders with vested and unlocked tokens will be able to claim those tokens directly, subject to your account configuration.
Funding escrow from other sources (advanced)
If you prefer, you can fund the escrow contract directly from another wallet or system (for example, a separate treasury or exchange account).
From the Coinbase Token Manager Overview page, locate your escrow contract address.
Copy the escrow address carefully.
From your external wallet or system:
Send a small test transaction first to the escrow address to confirm it is correct.
After confirming the test arrives successfully, send the larger deposit amount you intend to use for upcoming vest events.
Important notes:
You will only be able to withdraw tokens from escrow back to the account owner wallet (or configured treasury wallet).
You cannot withdraw escrowed tokens directly to arbitrary external addresses; withdrawals always return to the configured owner wallet.
