Overview
Whenever you offer a new token grant to a stakeholder, you should create a corresponding token grant in Coinbase Token Manager so vesting, lockups, and payouts can be tracked correctly.
You can set up grants in two main ways:
Create a token grant directly in the app for one‑off or smaller batches
Create token grants in bulk via CSV using templates for larger batches (for example, 10 or more grants at once)
Create token grants in bulk via CSV using templates
Use the CSV bulk import flow when you want to create many grants at once and apply consistent vesting and lockup schedules via templates.
Before you begin:
Make sure you have already created token grant templates that match your intended schedules
Ensure stakeholder profiles exist (or are being created in the way your process requires) for each person who will receive a grant
Step 1 – Create or confirm a template
If you do not yet have a template:
Go to the Token grants area in Coinbase Token Manager
Open the Templates tab
Choose the option to create a new template
Define vesting and lockup parameters such as:
Total duration
Cliffs
Vesting or unlock frequency
Save the template so it is available for use during import
If templates already exist:
Identify which template ID should be used for each type of grant you are importing
Step 2 – Structure stakeholder and grant data in the CSV
From the Token grants area, choose Import CSV or the equivalent option for bulk import.
Download or make a copy of the CSV template provided for grants.
In your spreadsheet editor, fill out a row for each stakeholder, including fields such as:
Name
Email and/or wallet address
Grant amount (token quantity)
Grant start date
Template ID that should be applied to that grant
Check formatting in the CSV:
Grant amount should be formatted as a number
Dates should follow the required format (for example, MM/DD/YY or the format specified by your template)
Once you have completed the data entry and formatting checks, save the file as a CSV.
Step 3 – Upload the CSV and apply templates
Return to Coinbase Token Manager and go back to the Import CSV area for token grants.
Select your completed CSV file to upload.
Start the import process:
Click Import or the equivalent button
Wait for the system to validate your file
After validation, review the grants that have been constructed from your CSV:
Confirm that each grant has the correct stakeholder
Confirm that each grant has the correct Template ID applied
Review vesting and lockup schedules for a sample of rows
If the validation step raises errors:
Correct the issues in your CSV (for example, fixing formats, missing data, or incorrect Template IDs)
Re‑upload the corrected file
Step 4 – Confirm and publish the imported grants
When the upload is validated and looks correct, confirm the import.
The imported grants will appear in Coinbase Token Manager, typically as drafts.
Review draft grants and, once you are satisfied:
Publish the grants to activate their vesting and unlock schedules
Publishing finalizes the grants and may involve on‑chain transactions depending on your account configuration.
Important notes
Ensure all data in the CSV is accurate and consistently formatted to avoid import errors
Double‑check Template IDs and grant amounts, especially for high‑value stakeholders
Use the provided CSV template from Coinbase Token Manager to streamline setup
Always perform a final review of grant details before publishing to prevent discrepancies with legal agreements
Overview
Use this flow to create an individual token grant directly in the Coinbase Token Manager app. This is best for one‑off or smaller numbers of grants. If you have a large number of grants to create, it is usually faster to use the CSV bulk import flow with templates.
Step 1 – Open the Token grants page
Sign in to Coinbase Token Manager.
Go to your Token grants or vesting plans page.
Step 2 – Start a new token grant
On the Token grants page, select Create new.
Choose Token grant from the options.
Step 3 – Select or create a stakeholder
In the stakeholder field (such as First name or stakeholder selector), you can:
Select an existing stakeholder from the list, or
Create a new stakeholder by entering their name and email.
If you do not yet have the stakeholder’s wallet address, you can:
Create the grant using only their email address, and
Later send an email invite from Coinbase Token Manager so they can log in and submit their wallet address.
Step 4 – Enter basic grant details
Select the grant date, which is usually the document signature date for the stakeholder’s grant.
Enter the total token grant quantity.
Choose the token price calculation method you want to use for reporting or tax purposes.
Optionally set:
A tax withholding rate, and
A price per token for tax calculations, if your process requires it.
Step 5 – Apply a template or define a custom schedule
If you already have a token grant template configured:
Select the appropriate template from your account so its vesting and lockup schedule is applied automatically.
If you are not using a template and need a custom structure:
Add a vesting schedule (linear or custom) with the required parameters such as duration, cliff, frequency, and percentages.
Add a lockup schedule if applicable, with its own duration, cliff, frequency, and unlock rules.
If you need help translating your grant agreements into schedules, contact your Coinbase Token Manager onboarding manager or support at tm-support@coinbase.com.
Step 6 – Create the draft grant
After completing all required fields and schedules, select Create.
The token grant is created as a draft and will appear in your drafts list on the Token grants page.
Step 7 – Publish the grant
Review the draft grant to confirm stakeholder details, amounts, and schedules.
When you are ready, publish the token grant so its vesting and unlock logic can take effect.
If your account uses on‑chain contracts, publishing may require you to confirm a blockchain transaction in your connected wallet or multisig.
Once published, the grant will begin vesting according to its schedule, and vested and unlocked tokens will become available for payouts or claims, depending on your account configuration.
