As a regulated financial services company, we’re required to keep customer information up to date for a safe trading experience. We may ask you for documentary evidence to ensure we have the information we need to remain compliant.

Documents will only be accepted through our secure SendSafely portal. Please use the secure link provided in the email you received. Documents will not be accepted by any other method.

Proof of employment documents

• Tax document (e.g., W2, 1099, P60, etc.) issued within the last 12 months showing employment or business income

• Record of any draw or distribution, outside of regular salary, from any business ownership

• Other documents issued within the last 12 months confirming employment and salary

• Contract based employees may issue invoices indicating hours worked, pay rate, company name and corresponding bank statement showing payment

Business ownership

• Business registration document showing customer name as owner

• Tax document or filing for the business showing the customer name as owner

• Shareholder register or similar document showing customer name as owner

• Partnership agreement or similar document showing customer name as part owner

• Regulatory filing for business showing customer name as owner

• Other legal document or document otherwise filed with a government entity showing customer name as owner

Freelancer

Source of funds (SOF) documents 

These documents correspond to the origin and method of acquiring and depositing funds into Coinbase. These include means of transfer and the source through which the funds were obtained.

Source/means of transfer

Fiat/cash deposits (bank account, debit card, payment apps or credit card)

• Bank statement from the funding account including the customer name, account number, and any other relevant identifier 

• Credit card statement from the funding account including the customer name, account number and any other relevant customer identifier 

• PayPal transaction statement showing the customer name, PayPal email ID and any other relevant customer identifier 

Crypto deposits from external exchanges / hosted wallets

Statement from the exchange or screenshot of exchange transaction records showing the customer name and the wallet address, and any other relevant customer identifier

Crypto deposits from external / unhosted wallet

• Wallet transaction statement

• Screenshot of transaction records or a file (e.g., .csv file) showing a clear outline of the external wallet inflows and outflows containing the date, transaction type (deposit/withdrawal), currency, amount, and wallet address for each crypto transaction

• External wallet statements must have an identifier such as customer name or email address

Crypto deposits from mining

• Mining payout statements or similar documents confirming ownership of mining equipment

• Documents should contain the customer name or any other relevant customer identifier

Source of wealth (SOW) documents

These documents correspond to the origin and method of acquiring and depositing funds into Coinbase. If your SOW originated from crypto or other investments, provide additional supporting documentation, such as a statement from a crypto exchange or broker-dealer. If you have multiple sources, provide a document for each source.

• Business registration document with the name of the business and ownership listed 

• Bank statement / checks indicating pay date, amount, and entity name

• Tax documents

• Invoices, bidding document, or sale document to direct or e-commerce statements from websites, such as Amazon, Ebay, Etsy

Savings / investments

• Unredacted savings account statement from within the last 3 months

• Investment account statement issued within the last 3 months

• Retirement account (e.g., 401k, IRA, etc.) issued within the last 3 months

Cryptoassets (exchange wallet)

• External exchange statement from the last 3 months, showing the customer's name, email ID, and wallet address

• Screenshot of external exchange account profile showing the customer's name, email ID, and the wallet address

Cryptoassets (external / unhosted wallet)

• Screenshots of the transaction history from the customer’s external wallet showing the customer’s name, email ID, and wallet address, and a document identifying the original source of funds used to purchase crypto assets

• Tax documents or capital gains/losses reports generated from crypto tax software (e.g., Koinly, Blockpit, etc.) showing transactions and holdings in the external wallet as well as the customer’s name and wallet address

• Screenshot of hardware wallet interface showing the customer name and wallet address

Crypto mining

• Mining payout statements or similar document showing mining rewards which include the customer's name

• Screenshots from customer profile on a monitoring website (e.g., 2Miners, Nanopool etc.) with the customer's name, email ID, or wallet address

• Purchase receipts for ASICs or GPUs, listing the customer's name, to corroborate initial investment and intention for crypto mining

• Tax documents claiming deductions or reporting mining income

Pension

• Pension distribution (e.g., Social Security) statement issued within the last 3 months

• Unredacted bank statement from within the last 3 months, showing direct pension deposits

• Tax document (e.g., W2, 1099, P60, etc.) issued within the last 12 months showing pension income

Family / friends / third parties

• Record of transfer / payment (e.g., Venmo, PayPal, etc.) from family / friend / third party

• Unredacted bank statement from within the last 3 months, showing transfers or deposits from funds received from friends / family / third party

• Copy of check or other monetary instrument in the recipients name from friends / family / third party

• Other document issued within the last 3 months, confirming pension distributions

• A bank statement for recurring small gifts such as allowances and birthday money, including how long you've been receiving these gifts

• A gift letter for larger one-time monetary gifts listing the following:

a. Gifter's full name, DOB, and location

b. Amount gifted to customer; include the crypto asset, amount, originating wallet address, and beneficiary wallet address for crypto transfers

c. Date funds were gifted

d. Reason for gift

e. Relationship between customer and gifter

f. Letter signed and dated (individually) by both customer and the gifter, either physical or electronic signature

Inheritance / large gifts

• Will / Grant of probate, including the date and the amount bequeathed

• Trust agreement with the trust name, customer name, and the amount bequeathed

• Conveyance document

• Other legal document showing transfer of assets as part of an inheritance or gift

• A bank statement for recurring small gifts such as allowances and birthday money, including how long you've been receiving these gifts

• A gift letter for larger one-time monetary gifts listing the following:

a. Gifter's full name, DOB, and location

b. Amount gifted to customer; include the crypto asset, amount, originating wallet address, and beneficiary wallet address for crypto transfers

c. Date funds were gifted

d. Reason for gift

e. Relationship between customer and gifter

f. Letter signed and dated (individually) by both customer and the gifter, either physical or electronic signature

Credit / loan

• Loan agreement showing customer name and loan amount settlement date

• Loan account statement showing customer name and remaining balance

Legal or insurance settlement

• Legal or insurance settlement documents or records (including settlement amount) listing the beneficiary name, date, and the insurance claim amount received

• Insurance statement showing any funds paid as part of an insurance payout listing the beneficiary name, date, and the insurance claim amount received

Sale of assets

• Brokerage account statement showing the sale of securities, containing date or period of the statement, starting and ending balance, and the name of the brokerage / investment entity

• Property or business sale records, containing the property / business name, sale amount, settlement date, and the percentage or value owned by each partner if property / business was owned as a partnership

Lottery / gambling winnings

• Gambling winning tax reporting records (e.g., IRS Form W-2G)
