How to transfer your cryptocurrency out of your Coinbase account

Please note that, after March 20, 2022, Coinbase products, including Coinbase Wallet, will not be accessible to users in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) or Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR). As a result, if you are part of this impacted user group and want to ensure uninterrupted access to your assets, you should send your assets from all Coinbase products to a non-Coinbase product prior to March 20, 2022. Sends are available on both mobile and web. Some helpful guidance is included below: 

Sending to custodial wallet (another exchange)

Web

  1. From your Dashboard, click Send / Receive or Pay from the left side of the screen. 

  2. On the Send tab, enter the amount of crypto you'd like to send. You can toggle between the cash value or crypto amount. 

  3. Enter the crypto address, phone number, or email address of the person you would like to send the crypto to.

  4. Click Pay with and choose the asset to send the funds from.

  5. Click Continue to review the details, then click Send now.

Coinbase mobile app

  1. Tap Send on the Home or Pay tab.

  2. Choose the asset and enter the amount you'd like to send. You can toggle between the cash value or crypto amount.

  3. Tap Continue to review and confirm the transaction details.

  4. Enter the recipient's information. (You can enter their email, phone number, or crypto address. You can also scan their QR code or pick a friend from your contact list.)

  5. Tap Preview send to review the details.

  6. Tap Send now to complete this action.

Note: Sends to a crypto address not associated with Coinbase will be made on-chain, will be sent on the respective currency’s network, and will incur network fees.

Important: All sends to crypto addresses are irreversible.

Sending to self-custody wallet (Cold Wallet)

For ETH for example:

  1. Go to MyEtherWallet.com.

  2. Generate a new wallet.

  3. Make sure to store the private key, the paper wallet in a safe place (better multiple places).

  4. Send your ETH from Coinbase to the public address of your new wallet.

Sending to self-custody wallet (USB)

  1. Create a bootable USB drive.

  2. Install your crypto wallet of choice on your computer.

  3. Disconnect your computer from the internet.

  4. Install the wallet software on the USB drive.

  5. Transfer your private keys from your hot wallet to your cold wallet.
