You may receive a corrected tax form after downloading your original,to ensure reporting matches the most current data. We understand this can be stressful, especially if you’ve already filed. This guide will help you understand why your form changed, how to request certain corrections, where to find your corrected documents, and what steps to take if you have already filed.
Disclosure
Coinbase does not provide tax, legal, or accounting advice. This information is intended to help you understand your tax forms, but you should review it with a qualified tax professional before using it to file your taxes. For specific questions about your tax situation, including whether you need to file an amended return, consult a tax advisor.
Reasons Coinbase may issue a corrected form:
Income reclassification: Certain assets may reclassify how income (like rewards or distributions) is categorized for tax purposes after the original form was issued.
Personal information changes: If your name, Social Security number, or state of residency is incorrect on your Form-1099 with respect to the year reported, a corrected form may be generated.
Reporting adjustments: Occasionally, Coinbase may identify data that needs to be corrected to ensure accuracy.
Corrected forms are a standard part of the financial industry; institutions are required by law to update your reporting whenever more accurate data becomes available.
Request a correction
If the name, Social Security number, state, or transactional data listed on your tax form is incorrect with respect to the tax year reported, contact our support team to request a correction.
For cost basis updates on your Form 1099-DA, you can update your cost basis in the Taxes tab and generate an updated gain/loss report. For tax year 2025, Coinbase provides cost basis on your 1099-DA for your records, but does not report it to the IRS.

Receiving a corrected form after filing
If you receive a corrected form after you've already filed, you may need to file an amended return using IRS Form 1040-X. Whether an amendment is necessary depends on the nature and size of the correction.
If you haven't filed yet but are expecting a corrected form, you may want to consider filing an extension with the IRS. An extension typically gives you until October 15 to file your return without penalties. Keep in mind that an extension to file is not an extension to pay. Any taxes owed are still due by the April filing deadline.
You can learn more about filing extensions from the IRS.
