Futures balances are held with CFM and spot balances are held with CBI. You can direct a transfer of any funds in excess of your futures positions’ margin requirements from your CFM account to your CBI account. To do this:

  • Web: Go to a futures trading page and select Transfer at the top right.

  • Mobile app: Go the portfolio page and select Transfer, then you'll see an option to transfer futures excess to your spot account.

Transfers initiated by 5 PM ET are available the next business day around 10 AM ET. Transfers made after 5 PM ET take two business days. Cancel transfers by 5 PM ET. Funds in transit cannot be used for spot asset purchases. To automate excess fund sweeps, enable the option in Coinbase Advanced Settings. At 5 PM ET, CFM excess transfers to your CBI spot account by 10 AM ET the next business day.

Market movements related to your open positions may impact the final amount that is transferred into your CBI spot account. Additionally, any funds transferred out of your CFM futures account are not afforded CFTC customer protection under applicable CFTC Rules.
