Move/transfer cash to Coinbase Inc (CBI) spot account from Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM) Futures accounts

Futures balances are held with CFM and spot balances are held with CBI. You can direct a transfer of any funds in excess of your futures positions’ margin requirements from your CFM account to your CBI account. To do this:

  • Web: Go to a futures trading page and select Transfer at the top right.

  • Mobile app: Go the portfolio page and select Transfer, then you'll see an option to transfer futures excess to your spot account.

Any transfers initiated by 5PM ET will be available by the next business day at around 10AM ET; transfers initiated after this will be processed in two business days. If you need to cancel your transfer, you must do so by 5PM ET. Until the transfer is complete, those funds cannot be used to acquire spot assets.

Note that market movements related to your open positions may impact the final amount that is transferred into your CBI spot account. Additionally, any funds transferred out of your CFM futures account are not afforded CFTC customer protection under applicable CFTC Rules.
