To get started with the Coinbase Wallet mobile app, you can create a new self-custody wallet or import an existing wallet. The Coinbase Wallet mobile app is available in the App Store for iPhone or in the Google Play Store for Android.
To create a new wallet:
Download the mobile app.
Review and accept the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Select Create new wallet.
Select Claim my username.
You also have the option to import your ENS name into Coinbase Wallet and use that as your username. If you want to claim the username later, select Maybe later.
Your new wallet will now be created.
Important: If you add funds to your wallet, you'll need to securely store your recovery phrase. You can view your recovery phrase from the Settings menu by selecting Security, then Back ups. You can write down your recovery phrase and keep it in a safe location or back it up to the cloud.
Back up your recovery phrase in Coinbase Wallet:
Access the Coinbase Wallet mobile app.
From the Assets tab, tap Settings.
Select the wallet to back up.
Enter your passcode to unlock the wallet.
Select Allow to access backup.
Select Back up with iCloud/Google Drive or back up manually.
iCloud/Google Drive: Create a unique password to secure your backup. Only you can access it. Keep this password secure. If you lose your password, you won't be able to access your funds.
Manually: Write down or copy your recovery phrase. Never share it. Coinbase will never ask for it. Never paste it into any website. Store it securely and ensure the spelling and order are correct.
If you're not able to load the Wallet app, follow these steps to view your recovery phrase:
Long press on the Coinbase Wallet app icon.
Tap on Recover your Wallet.
Select on Show Recovery Phrase.
Write down your Recovery Phrase in a safe location.
Import an existing wallet
Import another wallet provider like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and more into your Coinbase Wallet. Most Ethereum-based wallets have a 12-word recovery phrase, which acts as the key to your wallet. Recovery phrases allow you to transfer your assets from one self-custody wallet provider to another.
To import an existing wallet, you’ll need the 12-word recovery phrase (also known as a seed phrase) from your current wallet provider.
When you import another wallet into Coinbase Wallet, your passwords for that specific wallet will not be imported over to Coinbase Wallet and are not recoverable by any wallet provider.
There is no impact on your existing wallet when you import it to Coinbase Wallet. You will be able to use your existing wallet and recovery phrase across multiple providers. Any transactions you make with one wallet provider will show up across all of your wallet providers.
To import an existing wallet:
Download the mobile app, then tap I already have a wallet.
Tap Enter recovery phrase then enter your wallet’s 12-word recovery phrase.
Read and accept the terms and privacy policy.
Select Continue.
Alternate connection method
In some countries, we may detect the app needs an alternate connection method for a better app experience. In this cases, and if you decide to continue, we'll direct your traffic through Google’s DOH (DNS over HTTPS) resolver. DOH is a popular protocol commonly used for increasing user privacy. If you dismiss the option, you may not be able to create/import your wallet using Coinbase Wallet.
