Set up multiple source wallets with a Coinbase Prime account

Overview

Multiple source wallets let you pay stakeholders from per-stakeholder source wallets in your Coinbase Prime portfolio instead of paying every stakeholder from your company’s default vault. This article explains how an administrator configures grants that pay from multiple source wallets in Coinbase Token Manager.

Multiple source wallets are useful when different stakeholders or cohorts use segregated Prime wallets, or when your legal or accounting structure requires a specific funding source for each stakeholder.

This article assumes your Coinbase Prime account is already connected to Coinbase Token Manager. If you haven’t integrated yet, visit the Coinbase Prime Account Integration Setup Guide.

Before you begin

  • Your Coinbase Prime account is connected to Coinbase Token Manager.

  • The Prime API credentials used by Coinbase Token Manager have the required read and transfer permissions for the relevant portfolio.

  • The source wallets exist in that Coinbase Prime portfolio.

  • Each stakeholder destination is configured according to your Coinbase Prime Address Book or trusted-destination requirements.

  • You are signed in to Coinbase Token Manager as an administrator.

How source wallet routing works

For every token grant, Coinbase Token Manager uses one of two possible sources for the payout:

  • Grant-level source wallet — a specific Prime wallet registered on the stakeholder profile and selected when the token grant is created.

  • Company Vault — the default company wallet used when no stakeholder-specific source wallet is selected.

The Source column on the Payouts page shows the wallet label, address, and live balance used for each payout.

Step 1 — Add a Prime source wallet to the stakeholder

  • Go to the Stakeholders page and open the stakeholder profile.

  • In Source wallets, select Add source wallet.

  • Enter the Prime wallet address. Coinbase Token Manager searches the connected portfolio and fills in the wallet label.

  • Confirm the wallet details and save the stakeholder profile.

  • Repeat for any additional source wallets this stakeholder can use.

If Coinbase Token Manager can’t find the address in the connected portfolio, correct the address or portfolio configuration before continuing.

A wallet already registered on the same stakeholder is blocked. If it is registered on another stakeholder, Coinbase Token Manager warns you before allowing it to be reused.

Step 2 — Assign the source wallet during grant creation

  • Go to the Token grants page and create a token grant for the stakeholder.

  • Open the Source wallet dropdown.

  • Select a Prime source wallet registered on the stakeholder profile, or keep Company Vault as the default.

  • Complete the remaining token grant details and save.

Important: The source wallet is recorded at token grant creation and can’t be edited afterward. Contact tm-support@coinbase.com before changing the funding source of an existing active token grant.

Step 3 — Verify the payout source

  • Go to the Payouts page.

  • Review the Source column for the token grant.

  • Confirm the Prime wallet label and address match the intended funding source.

  • If Company Vault appears unexpectedly, verify the source wallet selection on the token grant before submitting the payout. If the grant was created without a source wallet, the company vault is the expected source.

Source wallet rules

  • A Prime source wallet address can’t be changed manually after registration. If a wallet’s address changes on the Prime side, add the new address when updating the stakeholder — Coinbase Token Manager recognizes it as the same wallet and offers to update the stored address.

  • You can rename a source-wallet label. Go to the Stakeholders page, open the stakeholder profile, select the source wallet’s label, enter the new name, and save.

  • You can’t remove a source wallet while an unfinished token grant references it.

  • If several token grants use the same source vault, submit them in separate payouts over time because Prime allows only one pending transfer from that vault.
