Crypto options explained

Every option contract has two sides: a buyer and a seller. The buyer pays a premium for the right, but not the obligation, to buy (call) or sell (put) an underlying asset at a specific strike price on a set expiry date. In exchange for that premium, the seller takes on the obligation to fulfill the contract if the option is exercised.

Each option is named by its underlying asset, expiry date, strike price, and type. For example, BTC 14-Oct 83K Call is a BTC call option with an $83,000 strike price that expires on October 14.

To see an option's contract details in Coinbase Advanced, select the Market info widget on web or Market info tab on mobile. It shows the contract size, minimum order size, tick size, price source, settlement currency, and index settlement history.
