Update cost basis on Coinbase with CoinTracker

Coinbase customers may be eligible for discounted crypto tax tracking plans through our exclusive partnership with CoinTracker. CoinTracker will sync exchanges and wallets, allowing easy calculation of tax information. From capital gains and NFTs to DeFi and multichain cost basis, CoinTracker provides comprehensive crypto tax reporting services.

Connect external wallets to Coinbase with CoinTracker

First time setup

  1. From the Taxes page, navigate to the Taxable activity section.

  2. Select Add details to view any transactions with missing information.

  3. Choose Auto-sync your cost basis info with CoinTracker.

  4. Select Get started to create a new CoinTracker account and connect it to Coinbase.

  5. Allow CoinTracker access to your Coinbase account.

  6. Choose wallets and exchanges to connect to CoinTracker. We recommend connect them all, as it will give a more complete picture of your activity.

    • Select Connect for each service and connect them individually.

    • For each wallet or exchange, you’ll need an address, API key, or a CSV file downloaded from that service. Details for connecting non-Coinbase services should be available from those services, or on the CoinTracker support site.

  7. When you’re done, choose I’ve connected all wallets.

    • It may take some time for CoinTracker to sync all your transaction data.

  8. Select a CoinTracker plan. We’ll recommend a plan based on your account activity.

  9. Review all transactions and cost basis information and confirm to complete import to CoinTracker.

  10. Your information will populate in your activity history in Taxes once your details have synced.

Existing CoinTracker users

  1. From the Taxes page, navigate to the Taxable activity section.

  2. Select Add details to view any transactions with missing information.

  3. Choose Auto-sync your cost basis info with CoinTracker.

  4. Select I already use CoinTracker

  5. Sign in with your CoinTracker account

  6. When asked to import CoinTracker data to Coinbase, select I agree.

    • It may take some time for CoinTracker to sync all your transaction data.

  7. Your information will populate in your activity history in Taxes once your details have synced.

Adding additional wallets or exchanges for existing CoinTracker users

  1. From the Taxes page, navigate to the Taxable activity section.

  2. Select View details in the CoinTracker card to manage the connection.

  3. Select Wallets & exchanges.

  4. Add any additional wallets and exchanges you may have.

Troubleshooting

Sync error

If your details couldn’t sync, try to reauthenticate the connection and/or confirm your address or API key is accurate.

  1. Select We couldn’t sync your details.

  2. Select the wallet or exchange that failed to connect.

  3. Choose Reconnect and follow the prompts to reauthenticate and check your address or keys.

Manual transaction review

If asked, you’ll need to review your transactions on CoinTracker. 

  1. Select Resolve on CoinTracker.

  2. Choose your login method.

    • We recommend choosing Continue with Coinbase.

  3. Update the details of each transaction in need of manual review and select Save.

  4. The updates will be visible on Coinbase once complete.
