Coinbase Commerce is being unified with Coinbase Business. You must transition by March 31, 2026, after which the Commerce portal will become inaccessible. If you're in the United States or Singapore, you can transition to Coinbase Business – a full-featured platform with custody, bank offramps, accounting integrations, and stablecoin payments.
What's Changing
Coinbase Commerce is being unified with Coinbase Business. You must complete your transition by March 31, 2026. After this date, the Commerce portal will become permanently inaccessible and you will no longer be able to create charges or access the Commerce dashboard.
Coinbase Business is a full-featured platform built for how businesses actually use stablecoins today: custody, fiat offramps, payouts, accounting integrations, and payments.
If you're based in the United States or Singapore, you can apply for a Coinbase Business account and continue accepting crypto payments with significantly more capabilities than Commerce offered.
If you're based outside the United States or Singapore, Coinbase Business is not yet available in your region. We are expanding to additional countries throughout 2026, but you will need to transition to an alternative provider before March 31, 2026 if you want to continue accepting crypto payments.
Why We're Making This Change
Coinbase Commerce was built for an earlier phase of crypto – one where buyers spent volatile assets and merchants self-custodied their funds. The market has shifted. The gaps with our merchants were clear: businesses today expect custody, compliance, seamless cash-out, and operational tooling.
Coinbase Business reflects that shift. It's stablecoin-first, custodial, compliant, and already proven in production at scale. For merchants who want a full-featured business platform, this is a significant step forward.
We recognize that some merchants valued the self-custodial, any-asset nature of Commerce. This change will feel disruptive, and we understand that Coinbase Business may not be the right fit for everyone.

What You Need to Do
If You're Eligible for Coinbase Business (United States or Singapore)
Apply for a Coinbase Business account at coinbase.com/business. You'll need a registered business entity and a business bank account.
Update your integration if you use the Commerce API. Review our transition documentation for the new API specifications.
Export your transaction history from Commerce before March 31 for your records.
Withdraw any funds from your Commerce wallet before March 31 (see Legacy Wallet section below).
Stop creating new charges on Commerce and begin using Coinbase Business for new payments.
If You're a Coinbase Managed Merchant (Settling on Coinbase Exchange)
If you currently settle Commerce payments to Coinbase Exchange, you do not need to reapply. Your account will be automatically transitioned to Coinbase Business. You can verify your status by logging in at exchange.coinbase.com with your Commerce credentials. To access your Coinbase Business account, simply navigate to coinbase.com and you will be taken to the new dashboard.
Payments: Shifting from Coinbase Commerce to Coinbase Business
Payment Links and Invoicing
If you currently create checkouts directly in the Commerce dashboard, you can start using Coinbase Business as soon as your account is approved:
Sign in at coinbase.com/business with your new business account.
Use the built‑in Payment Links feature to create shareable payment pages for your products or services.
Use Invoicing to create and send professional invoices directly from the Coinbase Business UI.
Stop creating new checkouts in Commerce and replace them with Payment Links or Invoices in Coinbase Business.
API‑based merchants (integration changes required)
If you currently integrate with the Commerce API, you’ll need to migrate to the Coinbase Business Payment Link APIs:
Create a new Coinbase Business API key and configure authentication for Coinbase Business (JWT‑based auth) instead of your legacy Commerce API keys.
Update your integration to call the Coinbase Business Payment Link endpoints and follow the new request/response schema.
Use the migration guide for details on fields, endpoints, and webhooks:
https://docs.cdp.coinbase.com/coinbase-business/payment-link-apis/migrate/overview
Once you’ve verified your new integration in sandbox/low‑risk flows, switch production traffic from the Commerce API to the Coinbase Business APIs and stop using the Commerce endpoints.
If You're Not Eligible for Coinbase Business (Outside United States or Singapore)
We understand this is disruptive, and we're sorry for the inconvenience. Coinbase Business is currently only available to businesses with a legal entity in the United States or Singapore.
What you should do:
Stop creating new charges well before March 31 to avoid last-minute disruption.
Export your transaction history and any reports you need for your records.
Withdraw all funds from your Commerce wallet before March 31.
Transition to an alternative provider before March 31.
Communicate with your customers if you have open invoices or ongoing payment flows.
We are actively expanding Coinbase Business to additional countries throughout 2026. If your region becomes available, you can apply at that time.
Legacy Wallets: Critical Information
If you have funds in a Commerce wallet, you must withdraw them before March 31, 2026. After this date, the Commerce withdrawal tool will be permanently disabled and your funds will become inaccessible via Coinbase.
Understanding Your Commerce Wallet
Commerce wallets are self-custodial. This means:
You (not Coinbase) control access to your funds via your seed phrase
Coinbase does not have access to your seed phrase or your funds
If you lose your seed phrase, Coinbase cannot recover your funds
When you created your Commerce account, you were given a 12-word seed phrase. You may have:
Written it down manually
Backed it up to Google Drive
Both
How to Withdraw Your Funds
Option 1: Use the Commerce withdrawal tool (recommended)
Log in to your Commerce dashboard
Navigate to the withdrawal section
Enter your destination wallet address
Confirm the withdrawal
The withdrawal tool handles the complexity of scanning all your Commerce addresses and consolidating your funds into a single transaction.
Option 2: Use your seed phrase directly
If you have your seed phrase, you can import it into a compatible wallet (like Coinbase Wallet or MetaMask). However, this may not show your full balance because:
Commerce generated a new address for each payment you received
Your funds may be spread across hundreds or thousands of addresses
Standard wallets typically only scan the first 20 unused addresses
For many merchants, especially those who received payments in Bitcoin or other UTXO-based assets, we highly recommend using the Commerce withdrawal tool prior to March 31, 2026.
If You Backed Up Your Seed Phrase to Google Drive
Go to Settings → Security → Manage backup in your Commerce dashboard
Reveal your 12-word seed phrase
Use the withdrawal tool at withdraw.commerce.coinbase.com
If you're having trouble accessing your Google Drive backup, please contact support immediately at commerce-transition@coinbase.com.
If You Lost Your Seed Phrase
If you do not have your seed phrase and did not back it up to Google Drive, Coinbase cannot recover your funds. Commerce wallets are self-custodial by design – we never had access to your seed phrase.
We strongly encourage you to:
Check any password managers, secure notes, or physical storage where you may have saved it
Check your Google Drive for a backup
Contact support if you believe you have a backup but can't access it
If You Can't Log In to Commerce
Contact support immediately at commerce-transition@coinbase.com. We can help you regain access to your account so you can withdraw your funds before the deadline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Coinbase Commerce being unified with Coinbase Business?
We're consolidating Commerce into Coinbase Business to offer a more comprehensive platform. Commerce was built for an earlier phase of crypto where merchants self-custodied volatile assets. Today, most businesses need custody, offramps, accounting tools, and compliance. Coinbase Business addresses these needs.
Will Coinbase Business support Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other assets?
Coinbase Business currently supports USDC, with USDT launching in March 2026. We're evaluating additional asset support based on merchant demand. The platform is built for stablecoins, which is where we see the strongest product-market fit for business payments.
I valued the self-custodial nature of Commerce. Does Coinbase Business support self-custody?
Coinbase Business is a custodial platform – Coinbase holds your funds securely on your behalf. This enables features that self-custody can't provide: direct offramps to your bank account, yield on idle balances, and simplified operations. We understand self-custody was important to some merchants, and we recognize Coinbase Business may not be the right fit for everyone.
How do I know if I'm eligible for Coinbase Business?
Coinbase Business is currently available to businesses with a legal entity in the United States or Singapore. You'll need to complete an application at coinbase.com/business.
Will my transaction history transfer to Coinbase Business?
No. Commerce and Coinbase Business are separate systems. Please export your Commerce transaction history before March 31, 2026 for your records.
I’m a business on Coinbase Exchange, what will transfer over to Coinbase Business?
As a business already on Coinbase Exchange, when you go to coinbase.com, any balance on your coinbase.com balance will be viewable along with any bank accounts you have already added. All payments you receive via UI or API will automatically settle to coinbase.com and will no longer settle to Coinbase Exchange.
What happens to my API integration?
You'll need to update your integration to use the Coinbase Business APIs. See our transition documentation for detailed instructions.
After I switch APIs where will my funds settle?
If you’re a business on Coinbase Exchange, after you switch APIs, funds will settle to coinbase.com rather than exchange.coinbase.com.
How does my development team get operational?
Once you have access to Coinbase Business, go to: https://www.coinbase.com/settings/api, generate an api key, select your portfolio, leave as "view only" and provide the credentials to your development team. These credentials don't support funds movement so they're safe to share
Will my pricing change if I transition from Commerce?
Pricing will remain consistent for merchants transitioning from Commerce.
What happens to my funds after March 31 if I don't withdraw?
The Commerce withdrawal tool will be permanently disabled. If you have your seed phrase, you may still be able to access funds by importing it into a compatible wallet – but you may not see your full balance. For many merchants, especially those with Bitcoin, funds may become practically inaccessible.
I have funds but lost my seed phrase. Can Coinbase help?
No. Commerce wallets are self-custodial. Coinbase never had access to your seed phrase and cannot recover funds on your behalf. Please check Google Drive, password managers, and physical records for your seed phrase.
The balance shown in Commerce doesn't match what I expected. Why?
There may be discrepancies between displayed balances and actual on-chain balances due to how Commerce tracked transactions. When you initiate a withdrawal, the actual onchain balance will be used.
