2-step verification for stablecoin sends in the EU/EEA

2-step verification is required for every stablecoin send under EU Strong Customer Authentication regulations.

What this applies to

2-step verification is required when sending stablecoins, including:

  • USDC

  • USDT

  • DAI

  • EURC

Any new stablecoins added to Coinbase will automatically follow this requirement.

This applies to sends:

  • To external addresses

  • To Coinbase Wallet

  • To any destination

When you’ll see the verification prompt

  1. Enter the recipient address and amount.

  2. Select Send now.

  3. Complete 2-step verification.

The transaction is submitted only after successful verification.

If verification fails or is canceled, the send is not processed.

Why stablecoins require verification

Under EU regulation, stablecoins are classified as electronic money (or ‘e-money’), hence Strong Customer Authentication is required for each send.

This does not apply to non-stablecoin crypto assets such as BTC or ETH.
