Coinbase vs Coinbase Advanced

Coinbase’s default interface is designed to let you easily buy, sell, and manage your crypto, while Coinbase Advanced provides analytical tools and charting capabilities to deliver a professional-grade trading experience.  Both allow you to securely buy, sell, and convert digital assets – but each is designed with different users in mind.

Coinbase: Built for ease of use

The default experience on Coinbase is designed for simplicity, helping you complete trades with just a few taps.

  • A user-friendly, intuitive interface

  • Securely buy, sell, and convert crypto with multiple supported payment methods

  • Seamlessly send and receive crypto

  • Easily set up automatic or recurring buys

  • Supports hundreds of crypto assets

Coinbase Advanced: Built for control

Coinbase Advanced is ideal for sophisticated traders who want deeper insight and more control over how their trades are executed. Advanced also offers derivatives, leverage, and high-throughput APIs in eligible regions.

  • Advanced order types, such as limit orders, stop orders, and bracket orders

  • Interactive charts powered by TradingView

  • Detailed, real-time order book and depth charts

  • API access for automated trading

  • Supports all Coinbase-listed pairs

  • Offers spot pairs, perpetual futures, and free stablepairs trading

Fees

Pricing differs across Coinbase and Coinbase Advanced.

  • When you trade on Coinbase you’ll see a fixed price quote before placing your order. The quoted price includes any applicable fees and spread

  • Trading on Coinbase Advanced uses a volume-based fee model, where fees are determined by your 30-day trading volume across all order books and your asset balance on Coinbase. No spread is included for Coinbase Advanced because users interact directly with the order book.

  • Coinbase One is a subscription product that offers benefits like zero trading fees and fee rebates, with certain limitations. Depending on the product used, members may still have spread included in their quoted prices.

Decide which is for you

  • Use Coinbase if you prefer an easy to use interface and don’t need advanced order types or in-depth market data

  • Use Coinbase Advanced if you understand advanced order types, are comfortable interacting directly with the order book, want more control over pricing and timing, and/or if you actively trade and monitor markets

You can switch between both products at any time from the Advanced toggle within the Coinbase app or website. Your assets, history, and balances stay the same between both.
