Coinbase wallet recovery phrase

Secret recovery phrase

Coinbase Wallet generates a 12-word recovery phrase, also known as a seed phrase. Only you have access to it. If you lose your recovery phrase, you'll lose access to your Coinbase wallet and your funds will be at risk.

Each recovery phrase wallet has its own independent recovery phrase. Back up the recovery phrase for each wallet separately.

Never share your recovery phrase with anyone. Coinbase will never ask for or have access to your recovery phrase, so we can't move funds on your behalf or help you access your assets.

Back up your wallet

We created an encrypted Google Drive and iCloud feature for backup of your recovery phrase. We recommend using this feature and securely storing your written recovery phrase.

Back up your recovery phrase in Coinbase Wallet:

  1. Access Coinbase Wallet.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Select the wallet you want to back up.

  4. Select Show Recovery Phrase.

  5. Authenticate with Face ID or your passcode.

  6. Select Continue to view your recovery phrase.

  7. Select Back Up with iCloud or back up manually.

  • iCloud/Google Drive: Create a unique password to secure your backup. Only you can access it. Keep this password secure. If you lose your password, you won't be able to access your funds.

  • Manually: Write down or copy your recovery phrase. Never share it. Coinbase will never ask for it. Never paste it into any website. Store it securely and ensure the spelling and order are correct.

Your recovery phrase is hidden automatically after 60 seconds. For your security, do not take screenshots or screen recordings of your recovery phrase.

Signing out of Coinbase Wallet signs you out of all wallets. Recovery phrase wallets are removed from the app and must be re-imported using their individual recovery phrases. Email/social log-in wallets linked to your email reappear when you sign back in.
