Emails from Coinbase
Coinbase always sends automated emails from a valid Coinbase email address. Do not reply to any emails or open any links from suspicious email addresses. If you suspect you’ve received a fraudulent email, contact us.
What you'll need
To be at least 18 years old (we’ll ask for proof)
A government-issued photo ID (we don’t accept passport cards)
A computer or smartphone connected to the internet
A phone number connected to your smartphone (we'll send SMS text messages)
The latest version of your browser (we recommend Chrome), or the latest Coinbase App version. If you’re using the Coinbase app, make sure your phone’s operating system is up-to-date.
Coinbase doesn’t charge a fee to create or maintain your Coinbase account. Learn about pricing and fees.
Create your account
Go to https://www.coinbase.com from a browser on your computer, or download and open the 
Coinbase app on Android or iOS to get started.
Note: We don’t recommend accessing Coinbase through a browser on your mobile device.
Select Get started.
Enter your legal full name (we’ll ask for proof).
If your legal name includes only one name and you don't have a last name, enter your legal name in the First Name field and a single dash (-) in the Last Name field.
Enter a valid email address.
Set a password.
Read the User Agreement and Privacy Policy.
Coinbase will send you a verification email to your registered email address.
Verify your email
Select Verify Email Address in the email you received from Coinbase.com. This email will be from no-reply@coinbase.com.
Enter the code on the email verification screen.
Add your personal information
Enter your name and date of birth as shown on your valid government-issued photo ID, along with your PAN (you’ll need to submit a photo of the ID later).
You’ll also need to answer several questions about yourself.
Select Continue to finish the process.

Recommended: Set up a 2-step verification app (TOTP) to help protect against unauthorized account access.
This requirement begins January 1, 2026.
Enter the countries where you pay taxes and your Permanent Account Number (PAN).
If you don’t have a PAN, you must obtain one from your government and provide it to Coinbase within 60 days of creating your account. Learn more.
Before submitting your information, review the accuracy of your PAN.
Select an entry line item to edit or delete it.
Select Confirm to submit your information.
If your address, the country linked to your phone number, or your place of birth doesn’t match your tax residency, you must select an explanation.
If none of the options apply, enter a brief written explanation so we can validate your tax residency. We’ll review it and email you when it’s complete.
